This year marks the 11th year of Buddy Baseball, an exciting event in which children with autism are paired with Jenks baseball players for an afternoon filled with fun, friendship and, of course, baseball!
Buddy Baseball was started in 2007 by Jenks High School student and baseball player, Mike Sartin. Thanks to a partnership between Jenks Baseball, the Autism Center of Tulsa and many generous sponsors and volunteers, Buddy Baseball has evolved over the past decade into the wonderful outreach program it is today. Over 22 children affected by autism or aspergers syndrome are given the opportunity to participate in a game of baseball in a safe, friendly environment under the careful guidance of Jenks baseball players who have been given special instruction on how to best interact with their buddies.
From having their name announced “MLB-style” over the loud speakers and people cheering for them from the stands to running the bases and crossing home plate and making the winning run, Buddy Baseball is a memorable experience for every child who participates. It leaves a lasting impact on the Jenks Baseball players and coaches as well which is why we look forward to Buddy Baseball every year and consider each Buddy a part of our Trojan Baseball F.A.M.I.L.Y.
